The unit history of the 11th Battalion AIF, written by Ian Gill and published in a revised second edition in 2004. The 11th Battalion was one of the first units of the AIF raised in 1914, recruited largely from Western Australia, and was among the first ashore at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 — the battalion is famously the subject of one of the most reproduced photographs of the campaign, showing the men on the Cairo pyramids before departure.
The battalion went on to serve through the remainder of the Gallipoli campaign, then on the Western Front through major engagements including Pozières, Bullecourt, Passchendaele and the Hundred Days Offensive of 1918, before returning to Australia after the armistice.
This second edition is a substantial and thoroughly researched unit history — considerably expanded from the original edition.
