The unit history of the 22nd Battalion A.I.F., written by E. Gorman and published in 1919 — in the immediate aftermath of the war. The 22nd Battalion was a Victorian unit raised in 1915 as part of the 6th Brigade, 2nd Division AIF. It served briefly at Gallipoli before transferring to the Western Front, where it saw action at Pozières, Mouquet Farm, Bullecourt, Polygon Wood and Passchendaele, and through the Hundred Days Offensive to the armistice.
Published just a year after the war ended, this is a first-hand account written while the events were still fresh — a primary document as much as a history. AIF battalion histories published in 1919 are among the scarcest of the genre; most unit histories were written years or decades later.
At 144 pages it is a compact but historically significant volume.
