The unit history of the 28th Battalion AIF, 7th Brigade, 2nd Division — a Western Australian unit raised at Blackboy Hill Camp, Perth in April 1915. Written by Neville Browning and published in 2002.
The 28th arrived at Gallipoli in September 1915, too late for the August Offensive, and served in a defensive role until the evacuation in December. On the Western Front from mid-1916, the battalion served through some of the most demanding battles of the war — Pozières, the Maze (Gueudecourt), Bullecourt, Menin Road, Broodseinde, Passchendaele, and through the Hundred Days Offensive of 1918 to the Battle of the Beaurevoir Line in October.
The title Blue & White Diamond refers to the battalion's colour patch — the distinctive blue over white diamond of the 7th Brigade, 2nd Division.
At 607 pages with black and white illustrations and a full index, this is Browning's most substantial unit history — the same meticulous research and use of personal diaries, letters and nominal rolls that characterises all his AIF battalion histories. Note: Browning also wrote histories of the 51st and 52nd Battalions — both also available from The Book Cellar.
