The unit history of the 39th Battalion AIF in the First World War, written by Alexander Patterson and published in 1934.
Note: this is the Victorian 39th Battalion that served on the Western Front in the Great War — a different unit from the better-known 39th Battalion militia of the Second World War, famous for its actions on the Kokoda Track in 1942.
This is a first edition unit history published while many veterans of the battalion were still living — drawing on firsthand accounts and official records from relatively close to the events themselves.
