Roy Cazaly is best remembered nationally for his spectacular high marking in Victorian football and the catchcry "Up there, Cazaly!" — later a WWII battle cry and hit song. But Tasmania claims him as one of its own: from 1928 he crossed Bass Strait to coach City in Launceston, then North Hobart and New Town over more than two decades, also representing Tasmania in interstate matches.

The Central Cookery Book was compiled in the 1930s by Alice C. Irvine, Mistress of Domestic Science with the Education Department of Tasmania, and used for generations as the core textbook for home economics classes in Tasmanian high schools. Generations of Tasmanians learned to cook from this book.
