Rose uses Tasmania's geography and political character brilliantly — the island's long ambivalence about its relationship with mainland Australia, and the specific character of Bruny Island and the Channel country, give the novel a strong sense of place.

At 409 pages a readable and well-paced political thriller that is also genuinely Tasmanian.
