The standard reference on Tasmanian postal history and postal markings, Part I — written by H.M. Campbell, J.R.W. Purves and L.C. Viney and published by the Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria in 1962. Part I covers the early postal history of Tasmania from the Van Diemen's Land period through the colonial era — the establishment of post offices, mail routes, and the postmarks used across the island's towns and settlements.
Illustrated throughout with black and white reproductions of postmarks and postal markings. A notable feature of this copy is that the loose sheets of postmarks inserted inside the rear cover are still present and intact — these sheets are frequently missing from copies of this title that come onto the market, making this a more complete copy than is usually found. Part II of this work is also available from The Book Cellar — contact us on 03 6381 1545 if you are looking to acquire both volumes.
