Pam Wood's historical novel based on the life of Henry Gardiner — the first European ferryman on the Arthur River in Tasmania's northwest wilderness, who operated the crossing from 1878 to 1913. Gardiner was born in London in 1834 and came to Tasmania's developing colony, eventually taking the ferryman's role on the remote Arthur River in the Tarkine — one of the most isolated positions in the colony.
A Tasmanian geologist, describes 65 walks across southern Tasmania, from Mt Wellington and the Wellington Range through to the Tasman Peninsula. Each walk pairs track notes with the history — and at times the contested land-use issues — connected to the place.
Fifty walking trails from across Tasmania, ranging in length and difficulty and colour-coded by season — useful for planning walks at different times of year and knowing which trails are best suited to summer versus winter conditions.
The unit history of the 2/3rd Australian Infantry Battalion, 16th Brigade, 6th Division, written by Ken Clift DCM and published in 1980. The 2/3rd was recruited largely from the west and south-west of NSW and saw action across some of the most demanding campaigns of the Second World War — Bardia, Tobruk, Greece, Crete and Syria in the Middle East and Mediterranean, and then recalled to defend Australia on the Kokoda Trail and in subsequent New Guinea campaigns through to 1945.
