War Dance – The Story of the 2/3rd Australian Infantry Battalion AIF | Ken Clift DCM | First Edition 1980 [USED – HCDJ – Very Good]

The unit history of the 2/3rd Australian Infantry Battalion, 16th Brigade, 6th Division, written by Ken Clift DCM and published in 1980. The 2/3rd was recruited largely from the west and south-west of New South Wales and saw action across some of the most demanding campaigns of the Second World War — Bardia, Tobruk, Greece, Crete and Syria in the Middle East and Mediterranean, and then recalled to defend Australia on the Kokoda Trail and in subsequent New Guinea campaigns through to 1945.

The title comes from the tune played by the 2/3rd Battalion's Regimental Band in march time throughout the years of war — Waltzing Matilda, played in march time as the battalion moved through Palestine in 1940, and carried through six years of service across two theatres of war.

Author Ken Clift, who received the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his actions around Tobruk in 1941, was himself a member of the battalion and brought first-hand experience to the writing.

At 450 pages with a nominal roll, honour roll, honours and awards section and black and white illustrations throughout, this is a substantial and thoroughly documented unit history.
