Michael Howe - the last and worst of the bush rangers of Van Diemen's Land

This is a 1966 Platypus Publications facsimile, numbered 126 of 500, of Michael Howe, the Last and Worst of the Bush Rangers of Van Diemen's Land, originally printed by Andrew Bent in Hobart Town in December 1818 and attributed to Thomas Wells.

The University of Tasmania's Companion to Tasmanian History describes the original 1818 printing as the first work of general literature published in Australia. Michael Howe was transported to Van Diemen's Land in 1812, absconded the following year, and led a bushranging gang through the colony's interior until his death near the Shannon River in October 1818 — this account of his life and capture was published within weeks of his death.
