The story of Mick Burles — a battling Launceston horse trainer — and The Cleaner, the gelding he began working with at Launceston's Mowbray racecourse in February 2011. What followed was one of Australian racing's better underdog stories. The Cleaner went on to win the Cox Plate — one of Australia's most prestigious weight-for-age races — from the most unlikely of starting points, a modest Tasmanian stable with a trainer who had spent decades on the margins of the sport.
At 189 pages with colour photographs throughout, this is a straightforward and readable account of the partnership between a man and a horse that most people in racing had overlooked.
