Martin Cash's personal narrative of his life as a bushranger in Van Diemen's Land — the 12th impression of the account first published in 1870, ghostwritten by fellow convict James Lester Burke.

Cash was an Irish convict from County Wexford who twice escaped from Port Arthur and led an eight-month bushranging spree with Kavanagh and Jones through 1843, robbing mail coaches, homesteads and inns across Van Diemen's Land. Cash lived in Campbell Town before his bushranging days, and is said to have assisted Irish master stonemason Hugh Kean in the construction of Foxhunters Return — the coaching inn on the Midland Highway in Campbell Town, Tasmania that is now home to The Book Cellar, where this book is sold. Whether Cash laid the very stones beneath our feet is unverified, but the connection is part of Campbell Town's oral history.
