The two-volume auction catalogue produced by Christie's for the sale of Dr Clifford Craig's collection of Van Diemen's Land and Tasmanian material — held in Launceston in October 1975.
Clifford Craig was one of the most significant collectors of Tasmanian Tasmaniana of the 20th century — his bibliographical studies of early Tasmanian printing and colonial furniture remain the standard references in their fields. When his collection was dispersed through Christie's in 1975 it was a major event in the Tasmanian collecting world, and the two volumes of the catalogue document his collection: books, prints, maps, colonial artefacts and works of art relating to Van Diemen's Land and Tasmania.
Volume I: 90 pages.
Volume II: 130 pages.
The set also includes a separate booklet of illustrations from both volumes, and the final auction price list — giving researchers a record of what each lot actually sold for in October 1975.
For collectors of Tasmaniana, researchers in colonial art and book collecting history, and anyone interested in the Clifford Craig world, this is an unusually complete and interesting set.
