Dr John Morris's short biography of Clifford Craig — the Launceston doctor, hospital administrator, historian, author, and collector of Tasmanian prints, art, books and antiques who became one of the most significant figures in 20th century Tasmanian cultural life.
Craig practised medicine and served as administrator at the Launceston General Hospital while simultaneously building the most important private collection of Tasmanian Tasmaniana of his generation — the prints, books, furniture and colonial artefacts that were eventually sold through Christie's in 1975. He wrote the standard reference works on Tasmanian colonial printing and printmaking, co-authored Early Colonial Furniture in New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land, and left a scholarly legacy that Tasmanian historians and collectors still draw on today.
This 1972 biography was written while Craig was still alive — a tribute from a colleague rather than a posthumous assessment.
