The unit history of the 25th Battalion AIF, 7th Brigade, 2nd Division — a Queensland battalion raised at Enoggera, Brisbane in March 1915 and one of the most heavily engaged infantry units of the First World War. 

The 25th arrived at Gallipoli in September 1915, too late for the August Offensive, and was evacuated in December. On the Western Front from mid-1916 it served through some of the most costly battles of the war — Pozières, Bullecourt, the Menin Road, Broodseinde, Polygon Wood, Passchendaele and the Hundred Days Offensive of 1918. The battalion's total casualties across the war — over 1,000 killed and nearly 3,000 wounded — placed it among the most heavily affected Australian battalions of the entire conflict.

The title "Black over Blue" refers to the battalion's colour patch — the black over blue diamond that identified the 25th as the first battalion of the 7th Brigade in the 2nd Division.
