An oral history of the Franklin River campaign, told through interviews with the people who took part in the blockade and the broader fight to stop the damming of the Franklin River. Where Wild Rivers captured the campaign through Peter Dombrovskis's photographs and Bob Brown's words, UpRiver tells the story from a different angle — the voices of the ordinary people who travelled to South West Tasmania, joined the blockade, and were arrested for it.
In the early 19th century, amidst public anxiety about the threat to public order and respectability posed by juvenile offenders, over 2000 boys were transported from the streets of London to the Point Puer Boys Establishment at Port Arthur in Van Diemen’s Land.
