In 1844 at the age of 17, Cooper Smith of East Sussex, England was sentenced to twelve years beyond the seas for stealing two shirts, and so transported as a convict to Van Diemen's Land. This book reconstructs Cooper Smith's experiences and those of his descendants and fellow convicts.
