Part One covers the town and Georges Bay itself: hotels, earthquakes and tremors, cricket, the post and telegraph office, churches (Anglican, Methodist/Uniting, Catholic), police, schools, football, boat racing, gymkhanas, oyster farming and commercial fishing, the flower and produce show, the hospital, the CWA, the Red Cross, the surf life saving club, the museum, and much more of the town's community life.

Part Two, St Helens Mines, is a detailed record of the district's tin mining industry — dozens of individual mining companies from the 1870s through to small operations still running in 1984, alongside biographical detail on many of the individual miners themselves. Appendices include the obituary of John Charles Macmichael and a 1933 census of underage children in the St Helens district.
