Francis and Anna Maria Cotton, English Quakers, emigrated to Van Diemen's Land in 1828 with their young family and friend Dr George Fordyce Story, settling at Kelvedon, on the East Coast near Swansea. Despite isolation and the hardships of early settlement, the Cottons prospered as sheep farmers, and Kelvedon became a significant centre of Tasmanian Quakerism, with Francis travelling widely "in the ministry" to other colonies. This book, compiled by a descendant, tells the family's story from 1828 to 1885, drawing on their letters and papers, including correspondence with son-in-law Joseph Benson Mather.
