Wynyard - a pictorial history

A history of Wynyard on the north-west coast of Tasmania in black and white photographs, compiled by the Wynyard Historical Society.

Wynyard grew up on the east bank of the Inglis River opposite Alexandria, a settlement founded by three ex-convict Alexander brothers on the Table Cape side in the 1850s. After the Inglis was bridged in 1861, Wynyard overtook Alexandria to become the district's centre of commerce, and by the late 19th century was handling more shipping than nearby Burnie. The town was likely named after Major-General Edward Buckley Wynyard, and later became known for the Table Cape Lighthouse (1888) and Tasmania's first butter factory, opened here in 1892.

CONDITION

This is an out-of-print book; it is in used but generally good condition. The cover is lighter in colour than some of the later editions.
