Identities and History of Tasmania's High Country | Ned Terry | 2005 [USED – SC – Out of Print]

Ned Terry's collection of recollections from people who lived and worked in Tasmania's Central Highlands — the cattlemen, snarers, drovers, hydro workers and families who made their living in the high country around Great Lake, the Mersey Valley, the Forth Valley and the surrounding plateau.

Published in 2005 and drawn from direct interviews, the book captures the voices of people whose way of life in the high country has largely disappeared — the hut culture, the seasonal movement of cattle, the snaring of possums, and the communities that formed around the lakes and rivers of the Central Plateau before the Hydro changed much of that landscape forever.

At 189 pages with photographs throughout, this is a valuable oral history for anyone researching the Central Highlands, tracing family connections to the high country, or wanting to understand the human history behind the landscape.
