The 51st Battalion was raised in South Australia and Western Australia in 1916 and served on the Western Front as part of the 13th Brigade, 4th Division AIF — the same brigade as the 52nd Battalion — seeing action at Polygon Wood, Passchendaele, Villers-Bretonneux and through the Hundred Days Offensive to the armistice in November 1918.

Forward Undeterred is a history of the 23rd Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, covering its service at Gallipoli and on the Western Front during the First World War.

The unit history of the 11th Battalion AIF, written by Ian Gill and published in a revised second edition in 2004. The 11th Battalion was one of the first units of the AIF raised in 1914, recruited largely from Western Australia, and was among the first ashore at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 — the battalion is famously the subject of one of the most reproduced photographs of the campaign, showing the men on the Cairo pyramids before departure.
