The Fighting 10th - unit history of the 10th Battalion AIF in the Great War. This is a First Edition, Second Printing published in 1936.
The 10th Battalion AIF was raised in South Australia within weeks of the outbreak of the Great War. As part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, the battalion was among the very first Australian units mobilized and famously formed part of the covering force during the initial Gallipoli landing on April 25, 1915, where its men fought fiercely to establish the beachhead. After serving through the entire Gallipoli campaign until the evacuation, the "Fighting 10th" transferred to the Western Front in France and Belgium, where they endured grueling, high-casualty battles at Pozières and Mouquet Farm in 1916. Over the next two years, the battalion fought with distinction in major actions including Ypres, the defence against the 1918 German Spring Offensive, and the final, decisive Allied Hundred Days Offensive, remaining active until the armistice.
