Rushy Lagoon has recently been in the national news — the sale of the property from the estate of New Zealand's Pye family to a UK forestry investment firm for over $100 million was approved by Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers on 8 July 2026, amid some controversy. The buyer plans to convert the historic dairy and beef operation into a pine plantation. The decision has drawn national attention to the property and the decades of agricultural history behind it.

Bert Farquhar's autobiography covers his years farming Rushy Lagoon before the Pye family purchased it in 1996 — giving a personal account of working one of Australia's most significant farming properties during the mid-20th century.
