The Rock Which Makes Tasmania (Tasmania's Curse) examines dolerite, the rock that caps much of the state's mountains and coastline, and its influence on Tasmanian landscape and geology. Author David Leaman completed his 1970 doctorate on dolerite intrusions in the Tasmanian Midlands, worked as a groundwater and engineering geologist with the Geological Survey of Tasmania from 1966 to 1981, lectured in civil engineering and tectonics at the University of Tasmania until 2001, and served twice as President of the Royal Society of Tasmania.
