An illustrated history of the locomotives held in the Tasmanian Transport Museum, Glenorchy, at the time of publication in 1991. The museum, founded in 1962 by the Tasmanian Transport Museum Society, preserves Tasmania's rail, tram and road transport heritage on a site leased from Glenorchy City Council since 1971. Its collection includes examples of the C class 2-6-0 (Tasmania's most numerous steam locomotive class, built from 1885), and X1 — the first mainline diesel locomotive to operate in Australia.

This booklet remains cited today as a reference for the museum's locomotive collection by Tasmanian railway preservation researchers.
