Government House Tasmania - A Remarkable Story is the first complete history ever written of Hobart's vice-regal residence — co-authored by Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC, the 28th Governor of Tasmania (2014–2021), who lived in the house throughout her term, together with David Owen, Official Secretary to the Governor and an accomplished Tasmanian novelist.
Book One traces the property's origins as Domain Rock Farm from 1804, the design and construction of the current Government House (completed 1857–58), the house, gardens and grounds in detail, and the colony's governors from self-government through to Federation in 1901. Book Two continues through to the last British-born governors of 1973, and closes with a detailed account of the house as "a unique home" today — its staff, gardens, ceremonial life, royal visits, pets and livestock, and the modern role of the Governor.
Published in 2021 as a deluxe two-volume hardcover set of nearly 600 pages, printed on 150gsm silk stock, case bound and fitted in a hand-produced burgundy slipcase with gold foil, illustrated throughout with over 500 images, including previously unpublished historical paintings, drawings, maps and photographs.
