A collection of essays on birds and the lighter side of life, drawn from Donald Knowler's long-running "On the Wing" birdwatching column in Hobart's Mercury newspaper. Knowler, a British journalist, spent 1982 recording the wildlife and characters of New York's Central Park while working there, publishing that account as The Falconer of Central Park (1984). After moving to Tasmania from Britain in the mid-1990s, he began writing for the Mercury, and this book — his first Tasmanian one — was a finalist for the Tasmanian Premier's Literary Prize.
