The story of a parson who believed that convicts in the later period of Van Diemen's Land's transportation era (1844-1870) could be reformed and who did all within his ability to help them achieve this lofty goal.

The Reverend George Eastman served for twenty six years in parishes across the penal state of Van Diemen's Land. His final posting was to Port Arthur where he demonstrated his firm belief that religious instruction, education and training were the keys to convict reform.
