Bellerive Heritage - four booklets on the history of Kangaroo Point, its forts, ferries and founding families | Bellerive Historical Society | 1993-1996 [USED – SC – 4-Volume Set]

Four local history booklets on Bellerive, on Hobart's Eastern Shore, published by the Bellerive Historical Society. Originally settled in the 1820s and known as "Kangaroo Point" for the large numbers of kangaroos once seen on its shore, the area was renamed Bellerive — French for "beautiful shore" — in the 1830s, and became the hub of eastern-shore ferry contact with Hobart. Its oldest surviving building is the 1842 sandstone police station, now a community arts centre, and the Kangaroo Bluff Battery fort was built in 1885 to help defend the harbour. The old 1897 post office today houses the Genealogical Society of Tasmania and the Sound Preservation Museum.
