Bartley of Kerry Lodge – A Portrait of a Pioneer in Van Diemen's Land | Yvonne Phillips | 1987 [USED – SC – Out of Print]

A biographical portrait of Theodore Bartley, an early pioneer of colonial Van Diemen's Land. Bartley and his wife Hannah raised sixteen children at their property near Launceston. In 1830 he sold 200 acres of his land at Kerry Lodge to Lieutenant William Kenworthy, Inspector of Public Works at Launceston — land on which Kenworthy later oversaw the construction of the convict-built bridge that took the Kerry Lodge name.

Begun in 1834, the bridge survives today (also known as Strathroy Bridge) and is one of only three Tasmanian convict bridges of its distinctive dolerite "spiky" parapet style still standing, alongside the better-known Spiky Bridge near Swansea.

This is a detailed account of one family's place in the early settlement of the Launceston district. Out of print and not commonly found.
