K.R. von Stieglitz's short history of Evandale — one of the best-preserved colonial towns in northern Tasmania, situated on the South Esk River south of Launceston. Evandale was gazetted in 1836 and its streetscape of Georgian and colonial architecture remains largely intact, giving it a distinctive character among Tasmanian towns. The town is known for its Sunday market, its annual penny farthing races, and as the home territory of the Glover family — John Glover's property Patterdale is nearby.

Von Stieglitz wrote histories of numerous Tasmanian districts and towns and is one of the most prolific local historians of 20th century Tasmania. This Evandale history, published around 1967, covers the town's establishment, its buildings and heritage, and the families and community that shaped it.

At 100 pages, this is a compact district history — the kind of local reference that becomes genuinely scarce over time.
