Viv and Hilda Robey were part of one of the last farming families on Maria Island, off Tasmania's East Coast. The Robeys farmed the southern end of the island alongside other long-running farming families - the Adkins, French, Howell, Hunt and Haigh families - until the Tasmanian Government resumed the island's freehold land in the late 1960s and it was proclaimed a national park in 1971. Kathy Gatenby's biography, published in 2011, tells the Robeys' story on the island.
