Impression Bay - convict probation station to civil quarantine station: fever ship Persian, 1857 | Richard Lord | 1992 [USED – SC]
Impression Bay, on the Tasman Peninsula, began as a convict probation station before being repurposed as a civil quarantine station. In 1857, the immigrant ship Persian arrived carrying typhus fever, and this book tells the story of that voyage and the quarantine that followed at Impression Bay — drawing on the resulting Parliamentary Enquiry into the "Fever Immigrant Ship Persian," medical notes on the typhus outbreak, and accounts of the final phase of the immigrants' quarantine and the deaths that occurred there.
