Ron Fellowes's account of riding his 1910 FN motorcycle from Kathmandu to Liège — the Belgian city where the bike was originally manufactured 102 years earlier — covering 14,600 kilometres through 15 countries over eight months.
The FN (Fabrique Nationale) was a pioneering Belgian motorcycle with no gears, inadequate brakes and pedal assistance — making every day on the road a physical challenge that had nothing to do with the mechanical sophistication of modern motorcycling.
Fellowes's account is of the journey itself — the countries, the people, the daily struggle with a century-old machine, and the determination to complete what he set out to do. After completing the journey, Ron Fellowes and his wife Lynne settled in Tasmania, where this account was written.
