In the later decades of the 19th century Wellington Street, Launceston, became a hub for a number of potteries. McHugh Brothers was one that thrived for many decades producing salt glazed earthenware pipes for the city's sewerage network.

McHugh Pottery also became renowned as a producer of richly coloured glazed ceramic items for the home and garden. This history charts the growth and eventual passing of of McHugh Brothers Pottery and catalogues many of the items they produced.
