Unit history of 7 RAR and its two tours of duty in Vietnam, 1967/68 and 1970/71.

7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR) was raised on 1 September 1965 at Puckapunyal, Victoria. The battalion served two tours in South Vietnam as part of the 1st Australian Task Force, based at Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy province. On its first tour, from April 1967 to April 1968, it carried out search-and-destroy and cordon-and-search operations across the province, including Operation Coburg on the Bien Hoa–Long Khanh border during the 1968 Tet Offensive, and fought the Battle of Suoi Chau Pha in August 1967 during Operation Ballarat. It returned to Vietnam for a second tour from February 1970 to February 1971, this time focused on pacification operations as part of Operation Cung Chung.

Around 2,400 men served with the battalion across its two tours, with a large number of national servicemen in its ranks; 33 were killed and 220 wounded.
