A Handbook of the Birds of Tasmania and its Dependencies (1910) – Frank Mervyn Littler [Sir W.E.L.H. Crowther Association Copy]

A first-edition copy of Littler's 1910 guide to Tasmanian birdlife. Please note: Physically, this is a heavily worn, poor-condition copy, but it has interesting Tasmanian historical provenance.

Provenance:

• W.E.L.H. Crowther Bookplate: Features the personal, pasted-in bookplate of the renowned Tasmanian collector, physician, and historian Sir William Edward Lodewyk Hamilton Crowther.
• Early Inscriptions: Includes various early owner signatures and a gift inscription in the front endpapers (including one dated 1940 to "my friend Jim").

Condition Details & Defects:

• Published by the Author (printed by John Vail), Launceston, 1910. Hardcover, 242 pages.
• Cover: Bound in original card with black lettering on the red spine (no gold gilt variant). The cloth spine is heavily faded, stained, and shows structural wear/damage at both the top and bottom edges. The overall cover is in poor, stained, heavily worn condition.
• Interior: The text block and table of contents contain occasional pen/pencil marks. The pages are heavily aged and worn at the edges, with some small tears present. The binding of the text block is loosening.

An interesting association piece from the library of arguably Tasmania's most famous book collector. Suitable for local history purists or institutional archives for reasons of provenance rather than the condition of the book.
