The Union Steam Ship Company's official tourist guide to Tasmania, illustrated throughout with photographs by J.W. Beattie, one of Tasmania's most significant historical photographers. This copy carries no printed date beyond 1898 on the title page. Its text content matches the first edition of that year; however, the hardcover binding is the style that was used later in 1898 and for the guide's 1899 second edition. Most copies of the true first edition were issued in paper wrappers rather than hardcover.
