The History of the Early Water Supply of Hobart - the first 100 years 1804-1904

The History of the Early Water Supply of Hobart traces the engineering story of the city's water from 1804 to 1904: the Hobart Rivulet as the original water source and the first piped supplies, the first augmentation of supply, growing pains through 1834–1858 including Peter Degraves and new waterworks at the Cascades, a new storage reservoir in the Sandy Bay Rivulet Valley (including the Wishing Well and Hill Street Reservoir), construction difficulties and reconstruction of the original Lower Reservoir, and finally tapping the North West Bay River as the last mountain water resource. Includes an investigation into the origins of the mysterious channel alongside Milles Track on Mount Wellington, and short biographies of two key figures in Hobart's early water supply, Peter Degraves and W.P. Kay.
