On the afternoon of 20 February 1921, thirteen-year-old Chrissie Venn left her family's home near North Motton, in Tasmania's North West, to run an errand and never returned. Her body was found more than a week later, on 1 March, concealed in a hollow tree stump close to the road she would have travelled. A local man, George William King, was arrested and tried for her murder later that year but was acquitted in August 1921. The case remains unsolved. Kris Gatenby's 2025 book draws together what is known of the case, more than a century after Chrissie Venn's death.
