Nick Anchen's photographic and oral history of Tasmanian railways across the second half of the 20th century — combining the memories of the men and women who worked the TGR (Tasmanian Government Railways) and its successors with the work of some of Australia's leading railway photographers.

The book covers fifty years of Tasmanian rail from 1950 to 2000 — the steam era, the transition to diesel, the rationalisation of the network, the west coast lines, the famed Tasman Limited passenger train, and the gradual contraction of services that characterised the second half of the century.

At 208 pages with colour photographs throughout, this is a substantial pictorial and social record of a railway system that was more extensive and more distinctive than most Australians realise.
