A Post Office Directory for Tasmania published by H. Wise & Co Ltd in 1925 — one of the annual commercial directories that listed residents, businesses, tradespeople and government offices across the state, organised both alphabetically by surname and geographically by town and district.
Post Office Directories are a useful primary source for family and local historians — they document who was living where at a specific moment in time, what their occupation was, and what businesses were operating in each town. The 1925 edition captures Tasmania at a specific point between the wars — after the dislocations of WWI and before the Depression — when many communities were at or near their peak population before rural depopulation set in.
At 441 pages, this covers all of Tasmania's towns and districts across both the alphabetical and geographic sections.
CONDITION
This is a well-used working copy in aged and worn condition for its 101 years — the cover is worn and fraying at the edges with a small tape repair to the spine, some sticky-tape repaired pages inside, and the pages are worn at the edges with some small tears. Titles faded. Stamped section titles on foredge of page block. The text remains legible and usable throughout for research purposes. See photos for fuller condition detail.
