Peter Sculthorpe was born in Launceston in 1929, growing up in nearby St Leonards. Sculthorpe went on to become one of Australia's leading 20th-century composers, drawing on the Australian landscape and Aboriginal music in works such as Kakadu and Earth Cry, and was the second composer — after Benjamin Britten — to be signed by the publisher Faber Music. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1990.
Sun Music, first published in 1999, is Sculthorpe's own account of his life and career. This copy is signed by the author.
