A photographic profile of the Tasmanian Government Railways (TGR) covering the years 1950 to 1970 — the steam era and early diesel transition period of Tasmanian rail, compiled and edited by Frank Cross and John Sargent.

At 48 pages this is a compact but specialist publication, focused specifically on the TGR's motive power and operations during a period of significant change. The 1950s saw TGR at the height of its steam operations; by 1970 dieselisation was well advanced and the network was beginning the rationalisation that would continue through the following decades.

For serious Tasmanian railway historians and collectors this is a useful photographic record of the transition era.
