Horse Power - A short Economic History of Horses in Tasmania - K.M. Dallas

Kenneth McKenzie (K.M.) Dallas was born near Wynyard in 1902 and spent his academic career at the University of Tasmania, where he lectured in economic history and directed the Workers' Educational Association. Horse Power, published in 1968, traces the ancestry of horses and their working life in Tasmania - from farm horses and coach horses to half-breds and horses used in war. Illustrations include a light draught team at Brighton, the last year of draught horses at the Hobart Show, ploughing matches at Ridgley in 1967, bindering at Yolla in 1967, and a mail coach leaving Stanley around 1912.

Also see our listing for From Horses to Horse Power - a photographic exploration of Tasmania's transport evolution, a fitting companion to this study.
