Forward Undeterred: The History of the 23rd Battalion, 1915–1918 is a First World War battalion history of the 23rd Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
The 23rd Battalion had a particularly hard war, with continuous service from Gallipoli to the Western Front and repeated action in some of the toughest fighting of WWI. Raised at Broadmeadows in Victoria in March 1915 as part of the 6th Brigade, 2nd Division, the battalion served at Lone Pine on Gallipoli before moving to France, where it fought at Pozières, Bullecourt, Broodseinde, Hamel, Amiens and Mont St Quentin. In the latter battle Private Robert Mactier earned a posthumous Victoria Cross.
