Drawing on (angling) Experience draws on more than 40 years of illustrated diaries kept by Ned Pankhurst across a career as a fish biologist and a parallel life as an amateur artist and fly fisher. Pankhurst holds zoology degrees from the University of Otago and the University of Bristol, and his research on the reproductive and sensory physiology of fish took him through marine, freshwater, Antarctic, deep-ocean and tropical waters across several countries and three Australian universities, with fly fishing as a constant alongside it. The book brings together fishing mentors and companions, angling triumphs and failures, and reflections on life's impermanence, illustrated throughout with the author's own black-and-white and colour artwork. Pankhurst is now retired and lives in Launceston.
