The catalogue produced to accompany the QVMAG exhibition on the Arts and Crafts movement in Tasmania — published by the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Launceston in 1987.
The Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th century emphasised skilled handcraft, honest use of materials and the value of useful objects made beautifully — a reaction against industrial mass production. In Tasmania the movement influenced furniture-making, metalwork, embroidery, bookbinding and other applied arts, and left a distinctive mark on the decorative arts tradition of the island.
At 70 pages with colour and black and white illustrations throughout, this is a compact but well-produced exhibition catalogue documenting Tasmanian examples of the movement and its influence.
Out of print since 1987.
