An original 1877 first-edition compilation of colonial Tasmanian geography. Please note: This volume is in severely damaged condition but has institutional provenance and includes the rare folding map.
Provenance:
- Royal Society of Tasmania: This is an official ex-library copy from the historic collection of the Royal Society of Tasmania, featuring original RST library stamps/markings.
Condition details & defects:
- Map: Includes the large folding map that was bound into the volume, now loose. The map is quite torn, but it is complete.
- Cover Damage: The cloth cover and spine are in severely damaged condition. The bottom third of the cover is heavily deteriorated, showing significant structural loss and paper decay (consistent with historic damp/mould damage).
- Interior Pages: The bottom edge of the internal pages shows heavy staining, fraying, and small tears matching the cover damage. The text block remains complete and legible. Some pages loose at the front.
A high-provenance book suitable for a restoration project for a bookbinder, or a valuable working reference for an archival collector who wants a complete copy with the map. Please view our detailed photos of the cover decay and the torn map before purchasing. Contact Just Tassie Books in The Book Cellar, Campbell Town, Tasmania if you have any questions.
